Resumption of Mass
May 24 @ 10:45 am - 11:45 am
May 7, 2020
A Note from your Pastor:
It has been approximately seven weeks (March 15) since most of us have seen each other and according to the latest reports, there will be several more weeks to wait until restrictions are lifted enough that we can all return to the celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass together – AND THEN, ONLY IF THE COVID-19 VIRUS DOES NOT SURGE AGAIN – FOR IF IT DOES SURGE BACK, THEN ALL BETS ARE OFF!
Following Local, State, Federal and Church mandates and guidelines, Bishop Rhoades, at this time, will permit the resumption of the public celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in all the parishes of the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend on the weekend of May 23 & 24, 2020.
If you are able to attend Mass that Sunday, you will be expected to observe all the mandates and guidelines that are still in effect at that time. For example: you must wear a face mask while you are in Church and you must adhere to the strict social distancing practice of staying at least six feet away from other people BOTH INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF CHURCH. To properly achieve this requirement, certain rows of pews and seats have been marked as “off-limits.” There will be NO Holy Water available for the present nor will there be Holy Communion from the Cup. The interior of our parish Church itself, along with all hymnbooks, handrails etc. have all been properly sanitized. PLEASE NOTE: If your health is such as would make you more susceptible to the COVID-19 VIRUS, or at any time you feel as though you are coming down with something, i.e. cough or fever, or who may otherwise be feeling sick, please remain at home. Note too that Bishop Rhoades has extended the dispensation relieving one of his/her responsibility to attend Sunday Mass through August 15, 2020.
Know now, that I can now testify very truthfully that people/believers do indeed make a Church a Church and even though we firmly believe that the Lord Jesus is here in the Blessed Sacrament each one of you adds something, you have been sorely missed and I welcome each and every one of you back as soon as possible.
My personal thanks to Sue Koester for both maintaining our Saint Mary’s WEB PAGE and FACEBOOK accounts during this very trying time so that most of you can keep abreast of what has been happening at your spiritual home. I also want to express my appreciation to the balance of our Staff here at Saint Mary’s, as well as, my thanks to our Soup Kitchen and all its volunteers. Regarding our Soup Kitchen, we made some adjustments, and all seems to be going well. Thanks too to all our Saint Mary’s parishioners who have faithfully been sending in their monetary support. As you well know whether we are here or not expenses continue!
As we hopefully can now start to see the subsiding of this virus scourge, let us not forget to pray for all those who have died as a result of this, those who are still suffering from it and all its many associated consequences!
Sincerely yours in the Risen Christ,
Fr. Phil, Pastor
